Sporting Vegans

Hanggliding

The stereotype of the pasty, weedy vegan is blown out of the water by the huge number of active vegans excelling in all areas of sport. There's a huge number of body building vegans, runners, cyclists, skate boarders, ski and snowboarders. I'd like to know what you've achieved on the sporting front. You'll encourage anyone wavering on the brink of becoming vegan and we can all feel very proud of you.Send pics! Check out the veganfitness website (see links section). Its packed full of superfit and aspiring superfit vegans. There's also info on how people have regained fitness after Chronic Fatigue and ME. For myself I run a bit (but not competitively- just enough to feel good), and I practise yoga and tai chi. I like the endorphin rush from well worked muscles. Last year I started learning to fly a hang glider. Forget endorphins; this is total adrenaline junkie territory. I haven't got very far yet in my progress towards becoming competent enough to launch and land without compromise. But I will! It's truly a unique feeling. Being able to soar quietly alongside the birds just adds a whole new dimension to life. If any of you fly please get in touch; it would be great to hook up on the hill with some vegan pilots. If you're interested in learning I recommend John Barrett of South Downs Hang Gliding. See his website in the Links section.
